Spray Tan FAQs

1. How long does a spray tan last?

A spray tan typically lasts between 7 to 10 days, depending on your skin type, how well you prepare your skin before the application, and how you care for it afterward. Exfoliating before your spray tan and moisturizing daily can help extend its life.

2. How do I prepare my skin for a spray tan?

To prepare for a spray tan, follow these steps:

  • Exfoliate your skin thoroughly 24 hours before your appointment to remove dead skin cells.

  • Avoid using oil-based moisturizers or products on the day of your spray tan as they can create a barrier.

  • Shave or wax at least 24 hours prior to your appointment to prevent irritation and ensure an even application.

  • Wear loose, dark clothing to your appointment to avoid staining your clothes and to allow the tan to set without interference.

3. What should I do immediately after getting a spray tan?

After a spray tan:

  • Avoid water, sweating, and tight clothing for at least 6-8 hours to allow the tan to develop properly.

  • Take your first shower with lukewarm water and avoid scrubbing your skin.

  • Pat your skin dry instead of rubbing it to preserve the tan.

  • Moisturize regularly to keep your skin hydrated and help maintain the tan.

4. Will a spray tan protect me from the sun?

No, a spray tan does not provide any sun protection. It only colors the outer layer of your skin and does not contain SPF. You should always apply sunscreen when going out in the sun to protect your skin from UV rays.

5. Can I get a spray tan if I have sensitive skin or allergies?

If you have sensitive skin or allergies, it's important to do a patch test before getting a full spray tan. Most reputable salons and at-home spray tan products offer formulas designed for sensitive skin. Look for products free of common allergens like fragrances, parabens, and sulfates. If you have any concerns, consult with a dermatologist before proceeding.

6.   How far in advance should I book a spray tan before my vacation or event?

Anywhere from 1-2 days before. Spray tans always look the best and show their true color the day after the initial appointment.

7. Is it safe to get a pedicure while having a spray tan on?

Getting a pedicure while having a spray tan on is not recommended. All waxing and nail appointments should be completed 24 hours prior to your tanning session.
